We aim to offer a diverse range of opportunities for girls to learn and perform in the musical area of their choosing, encouraging them to develop their musical skills from beginner to advanced. Our Music Department has individual practice rooms including a larger rehearsal room for Chamber Music and dedicated rock band and singing rooms. We have a grand piano for performances and pipe organ for chapel services.
Our Choir Harmonia is open to all girls with weekly evening rehearsals. Harmonia takes part in an annual Choir Festival, Big Sing, and regularly contributes to chapel services and other official school functions. Harmonia won the section of Best New Zealand Composition at the 2015 Big Sing.
Chamber Music Groups compete in the regional Chamber Music Competition each year as well as local concerts and competitions. In 2016 two Nga Tawa Chamber Music Groups were presented with the Adjudicators Award and a Highly Commended.
Students are able to take part in other events and competitions, such as Smokefree Rockquest. In 2016, Briana Allan won the Regional Final for Best Solo/Duo at the Smokefree Vocal Award.
