Volleyball

David Tipi coaches volleyball and teaches 9INHPE and Core PE.

David started playing volleyball at school and in his first year, his team placed 3rd at the Junior North Island Championships. In 1998, his team were National Champions and they were runner-up the following year as Year 13 students.

David coached the junior team at Massey High School in 2010. At Aorere College, he coached the senior boys team at the National Championship in 2017.

Nga Tawa's volleyball programme started in 2018 with 7 players. It has grown to include a senior and junior team with 22 students on the roster. David's philosophy is that sport should be fun but goal-oriented with 100% commitment the driving force behind success.

“I don’t know anyone who is naturally good at volleyball. Everyone starts from square one and the skills you need are unlike most running based skills; you need good hand–eye coordination and ball skills…and that’s what’s exciting about it.”
