Head of English Department

Nga Tawa Diocesan School is a special character boarding and day school for girls in Years 9 - 13. For over 134 years, we’ve helped young women discover their passions and grow into confident, capable individuals.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate educator to lead our English Department as our current Head of English has been appointed as our Deputy Principal – Curriculum. The Head of English Department is responsible for professionally leading and managing curriculum specific to English and Languages, managing resources and providing leadership to staff to promote quality teaching and learning.

The English department is a key curriculum area within our school and a significant pillar of our academic success. We are looking for a leader with great energy and vision who will continue to foster and build upon our strong literacy, NCEA, and CAA results.

The successful applicant will:

• Professionally lead the development, delivery, and evaluation of the curriculum specific to English and languages.
• Support and drive the academic success of our students.
• Have a strategic vision for this pivotal learning areas for the future.
• Lead a well-resourced department with passionate and experienced teachers.

We’re looking for someone who:

• Is a New Zealand-registered teacher with extensive secondary teaching experience in the NCEA framework.
• Is an expert in the field of English and demonstrates excellence in classroom teaching.
• Has a strong theoretical and practical knowledge of curriculum design, learning, and assessment.
• Has a grounding in the New Zealand bicultural context and understands the importance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and cultural responsiveness in education.
• Has experience in NZQA marking panels, or subject associations.
• Has successful experience in relevant management roles (preferred but not essential).

This is a full-time, permanent position.

Coaching Roles

Part-time

Nga Tawa Diocesan School is a special character, all-girls secondary school with a reputation for excellence. We aim to provide top-quality coaches to ensure our students are given every opportunity to excel in their chosen sports.

We are currently seeking four dedicated coaches to join our sports department for Netball, Hockey, Badminton, and Football during Term 2 and Term 3.

Successful applicants will be expected to:

• Plan, implement, and facilitate weekly team training sessions.
• Create a positive team culture.
• Support their team at weekly competitions and, for top teams, at tournaments and special events.
• Commit to approximately four to six hours per week, with travel time paid.

Ideal candidates will have:

• A current coaching qualification or proven coaching experience.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• A commitment to player development and team success.
